Test Description: Sputum AFB (Acid-Fast Bacilli) 3 Days

The Sputum AFB test is used to detect the presence of *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*, the bacteria responsible for tuberculosis (TB), in a patient’s sputum (mucus or phlegm). The test involves examining sputum samples under a microscope after they have been stained with an acid-fast dye, which allows the detection of AFB. For this test, sputum samples are collected over three consecutive days to increase the likelihood of detecting the bacteria, especially in individuals with low bacterial load. A positive result confirms active tuberculosis infection, while a negative result may require further testing or clinical evaluation.
