VDRL (RPR- SEROLOGY FOR SYPHILIS)

VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) Test is a blood test used to screen for syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection caused by *Treponema pallidum*. The test detects nonspecific antibodies produced in response to the infection. It is often used as a preliminary screening tool, and if positive, results are typically confirmed with more specific tests, such as the FTA-ABS (Fluorescent Treponemal Antibody Absorption) test. The VDRL test is also used to monitor treatment effectiveness in individuals diagnosed with syphilis. However, false positives can occur due to conditions like lupus or malaria.
