RVVT-Russell Viper Venom Time(Lupus Anticoagulant)

Test Description: RVVT (Russell Viper Venom Time) – Lupus Anticoagulant

The RVVT (Russell Viper Venom Time) test is used to detect the presence of lupus anticoagulant, an antibody that interferes with blood clotting and can increase the risk of abnormal blood clots (thrombosis). This test uses Russell viper venom, which activates clotting in the presence of normal blood but is inhibited by lupus anticoagulant antibodies. A prolonged RVVT indicates the potential presence of lupus anticoagulant, which is commonly associated with autoimmune disorders like antiphospholipid syndrome. This test is often part of a workup for unexplained clotting events, recurrent miscarriages, or other signs of thrombophilia.
