Test Description: Prostate Specific Antigen (Total PSA)

The Total Prostate Specific Antigen (Total PSA) test measures the overall level of PSA, a protein produced by the prostate gland, in the blood. Elevated PSA levels can be a sign of prostate conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostatitis, or prostate cancer. The test is commonly used for prostate cancer screening, monitoring prostate health in men over 50, or assessing individuals with symptoms of prostate issues. However, elevated PSA levels alone cannot confirm cancer, and further tests or biopsies may be required for a definitive diagnosis.
