Mycobacterium Complex – PCR (Pleural Fluid) Test – Short Description:

The Mycobacterium Complex PCR (Pleural Fluid) test detects the DNA of *Mycobacterium* species, including *Mycobacterium tuberculosis* and other non-tuberculous mycobacteria, in pleural fluid. This test is used to diagnose infections such as tuberculosis pleuritis or other mycobacterial pleural diseases, particularly in patients with pleuritic chest pain, fever, or unexplained respiratory symptoms. PCR is a rapid and highly sensitive method, enabling early and accurate identification of mycobacterial infections, which may be difficult to diagnose with conventional culture methods. This test helps guide appropriate treatment for infections affecting the pleura (lining of the lungs).
