A blood test that detects the presence or absence of HCV RNA in the bloodstream. This test is used to confirm the active presence of the Hepatitis C virus (HCV), providing a yes/no result for infection. It is particularly useful for diagnosing an acute infection, as well as confirming an ongoing infection in individuals who test positive for HCV antibodies (Anti-HCV).

Unlike quantitative tests that measure the amount of virus, the qualitative test simply confirms whether the virus is detectable in the blood, which is essential for determining if antiviral treatment is needed.
