The Ferritin, Serum test measures the level of ferritin, a protein that stores iron in the body. It acts as an indicator of the body’s iron reserves. Low ferritin levels may indicate iron deficiency, which can lead to anemia, fatigue, and weakness. High ferritin levels can indicate iron overload conditions, such as hemochromatosis, or inflammation, as ferritin is also an acute-phase reactant.

This test is commonly used to diagnose iron deficiency anemia, monitor iron supplementation, or assess iron storage disorders. Ferritin levels are also considered in the evaluation of conditions like chronic infections, liver disease, or certain cancers.
