The Alpha Feto Protein (AFP) Titre test measures the level of AFP, a protein produced by the liver and yolk sac of a developing fetus. Elevated AFP levels in adults can be an indicator of certain cancers, particularly liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma), germ cell tumors, or other liver diseases. It is also used in prenatal testing to assess the risk of birth defects, such as neural tube defects. A blood sample is required for this test.
