Test Description: RPR (Serology for Syphilis)

The RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) test is a screening blood test used to detect antibodies produced by the body in response to a syphilis infection caused by the bacterium *Treponema pallidum*. It is a non-treponemal test that detects the presence of reagin antibodies, which are produced when the body reacts to the infection. The RPR test is commonly used for syphilis screening, especially in individuals at risk, pregnant women, or as part of routine STD testing. If the RPR test result is positive, confirmatory tests, such as the Treponema Pallidum Particle Agglutination (TPPA) or Fluorescent Treponemal Antibody Absorption (FTA-ABS), are needed to confirm the diagnosis. It can also be used to monitor the effectiveness of syphilis treatment.
