Test Description: Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) Test

The Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) test is a screening test used to detect antibodies in the blood that are produced in response to a syphilis infection. It detects non-specific antibodies, which are released when the body reacts to the presence of *Treponema pallidum*, the bacteria that causes syphilis. The RPR test is commonly used for initial syphilis screening and can be used to assess the presence of active infection. If the test is positive, further confirmatory tests, such as the Treponema Pallidum Particle Agglutination (TPPA) or Fluorescent Treponemal Antibody Absorption (FTA-ABS), are needed to confirm the diagnosis. The RPR test is also used to monitor treatment effectiveness and detect relapse.
