Quadruple Marker Maternal Screen, Serum
Test Description: Quadruple Marker Maternal Screen, Serum
The Quadruple Marker Maternal Screen, also known as the Quad Screen, is a blood test performed during pregnancy (usually between the 15th and 20th week) to assess the risk of certain birth defects and chromosomal abnormalities. The test measures the levels of four substances in the mother’s blood: Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), Estriol, and Inhibin-A. These markers can help assess the risk for conditions such as Down syndrome (trisomy 21), trisomy 18, and neural tube defects. The results are used in conjunction with other diagnostic tests and ultrasound findings to guide further evaluation and decision-making.
