Lactic Dehydrogenase (LDH) – Pleural Fluid

The LDH-Pleural Fluid test measures the level of Lactic Dehydrogenase in pleural fluid, which is the fluid found in the space between the lungs and the chest wall. Elevated LDH levels in pleural fluid can indicate conditions such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung cancer, or other infections or inflammations affecting the pleura. This test is commonly used to differentiate between transudative and exudative pleural effusions, helping to determine the underlying cause of fluid buildup in the chest cavity.
