The Culture Nasal Swab (Aerobic) test is used to detect bacterial infections or the presence of harmful bacteria in the nasal passages. A swab is taken from inside the nose, and the sample is cultured in an aerobic environment (with oxygen) to allow any bacteria present to grow.

This test is commonly used to identify pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus (including Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA), which can cause nasal infections or lead to more serious conditions if it spreads to other parts of the body. It is also used in cases of chronic sinus infections, nasal discharge, or to screen individuals (such as healthcare workers or those undergoing surgery) for bacterial colonization. Identifying the bacteria helps guide appropriate treatment, especially in the case of antibiotic-resistant strains.
