The APLA (Antiphospholipid Antibody) Profile test is a group of blood tests used to detect antiphospholipid antibodies in the blood. These antibodies target phospholipids, which are essential components of cell membranes. Elevated levels of antiphospholipid antibodies are associated with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), an autoimmune disorder that increases the risk of blood clots, recurrent miscarriages, and other complications like stroke or deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The APLA profile typically includes tests for Anti-cardiolipin antibodies, Anti-beta-2 glycoprotein I antibodies, and Lupus anticoagulant. A blood sample is required for this test.
